Discovering, analyzing and enhancing BPMN models in ProM

Project lead: research fellow Anna A. Kalenkova.

Using BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) in conjunction with ProM (the most popular open source process mining tool) allows one to discover understandable business process models, which could be loaded to an external BPMN modeling or execution tool. Moreover, a BPMN model is not limited to control flow, but makes it possible to give a holistic view of the process discovered: the model could be enhanced with additional information represented as a resource or as a data perspective. Conformance (log and model discrepancies) and performance characteristics can be determined and added to a BPMN diagram as well.

The aim of our project is bridge the gap between formal process mining methods and models (such as Petri nets, process trees and others) and process models used in industry. For this purpose together with our colleagues from AIS TU/e we develop BPMN supporting plugins in ProMThe entire support for BPMN is available in the nightly build of ProM.

For more information about current status of the BPMN functionality in ProM please see  BPMN in ProM presentation and a screencast tutorial:
